This year, I'm going to volunteer, probably in both directions - during the storm, and after.

However - for my friends who live in N.O. and Mobile (or any of those areas), if you need a place to stay, I housed four people during Katrina and will happily let you stay here if you need a place. I can only accomodate (tightly) about 5-6 people (again, it will be tight but can be done), so anyone who needs shelter from any area, please let me know. We had a bit of trouble during Katrina, too, (lost power for two weeks, heavy storms) but they say Gustav is going to be worse (I'm praying it won't be).

My phone number is 205-541-4088. Please call if you need a spot.

That is all.

YIKES. No, I intended it to be friend's only, however my stalkers all have my cell phone number and I don't expect any nutters to call my cell. So it's all good. I have friends on my "friend's of" list who wouldn't be able to read it if it wasn't open. I'll retitle it.

Thank you sweetie, for telling me it was open. I originally didn't intend for it to be.

Have I told you lately that I think you're awesome?

I would've gladly helped during Katrina, if I'd had the time off work. I would hope that this is just "human". If it happened to me, I'd hope someone like me would offer the same thing :)

But thank you. I'm doing nothing I didn't do last storm :>

That is so sweet of you to help those that need the help! Aww Terri!

how far are you from where the storm is making landfall??

Thanks. I'd hope someone would do it for me, you know?

If this is anything like Katrina, Birmingham will suffer as we did last time. I lost electricity for two weeks, and did have some people staying with me then, too (LJers and their parents). Birmingham is the evacuation spot for Mobile, and we're already setting up, which I think I'll go tomorrow and start working. I'm definitely, however, going to help this year. CNN is updating it as we speak.

I remember when you lost power during Katrina times...I hope this isn't as bad mama! Hang in there and keep us updated!

I have friends further north who've offered to let me stay, since they remember Katrina. :) So I'll be fine. Thank you :)

How nice of you! It sounds like the storm is weakening a bit, so hopefully it will keep diminishing, although they usually weaken and then pick up steam again... And if it's not this storm it will probably be another one sooner or later...

How far are you from New Orleans?

I'd hope others would treat Special K and I the same way. Actually it's not looking good for us right now (CNN updates). I'm about 5 hours away from Katrina, and last year, we lost power for two weeks here in Birmingham (this is where they and Mobile come to get away). So I'm concerned, and am going to help in every way this time.

Good luck and I hope you don't have any problems..!

Thanks, sweetie.

My mom went down twice with church groups to help with Katrina cleanup.

It doesn't look like Gustav will cause as much damage as Katrina, but they have learned a lot from it and made great improvements like getting people evacuated in time. (I am watching NBC Nightly News as I thumb-type.) RNC suppprters are gathering supplies for hygiene kits to send down.

If I lived closer, you guys could stay with me if you needed to.

A lot of out-of-towners are here for a place to stay (still). Sooooooooo. That's that. I believe they'll be able to return perhaps in the next 24 to 48 hours.

We were totally unaffected this time. I loved, however, the nice winds we got as a result.

Here is Belladonna, the Lady of the Rocks,
The lady of situations.
Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card
Which is blank, is something that he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself;

One must be so careful these days.
