When ya just can't say it

Post a meme:

You Communicate Honestly

You don't mince words. You are to the point and all about the facts.

However, you are charming enough to tell people the truth yet still not offend them.

It's likely that you have a hilarious, no holds barred sense of humor. And you sure tell an entertaining story!

You're also quite open. People can ask you anything, and you don't shy away from controversial conversation topics.

I wonder when they're going to start making brutally honest memes which point out our imperfections in lieu of the good things about us? Even the semi-ugly meme questions turn us into goddesses and make us seem like there's nothing wrong. WTH. I'd love one that showed us our weaknesses. Maybe then, we'd be making some progress.

I'd journal but I just can't. Too much going on and it's all too crazy and scary.

My guess -- most people who fill out online personality quizzes don't want brutal honesty, they just want reassurance, pats on the back... even though there's limited utility in that sorta thing.

Eventually the names will come to me, I can't remember them now. Damned aging brain. One of them was "no"-something.

But anyway, a couple years ago I found a pair of online things where you picked various good and bad personality traits from lists that you thought described yourself, and invited friends to do the same. The results were fascinating -- you'd get a pat on the back, but it also threw your self-delusions right back in your face...
Feb. 10th, 2009 04:18 pm (UTC)
I know exactly what you're talking about; it's a pscyhological (real) test. But I'd love to see a meme that threw some realism into its questions and answers. lol :> I did take that personality test and it showed I was a little obsessive, but overall normal. Go figure.

It's my belief NOW that NO ONE wants brutal honesty. It hurts too much to hear. They say they want it, but you throw it at 'em straight and they tremble and pee in a corner. I have a huge list of things wrong with me, and wouldn't cry if I asked someone who knew me if any of those things were out of control. lol I'd man up and just take it, because in my world of words, brutal honesty is really all that counts when it's asked. Unsolicited, brutal honest is self-serving and hateful, though; don't ya think?
Feb. 16th, 2009 06:10 pm (UTC)
I found 'em -- johari and nohari. The online versions I filled out years ago are still up; I'm smart and funny and a maybe a little crabby, but evidently I'm unhappier and more predictable than I realized.

I like to think I can handle the brutal honesty when it's warranted. It's one of the few benefits of not having an emotional thermostat that goes up very far. But, yeah, cruel people can and do use it as a weapon, playing the "I was only trying to help" card when they're called on it...

Still amazes me sometimes that people want the lies, and sometimes even pay good money for 'em. It's a little messed up.

I wanna take it! Do you have the link?
Feb. 17th, 2009 01:16 am (UTC)

Also this joke test with perfectly plausible questions http://thesurrealist.co.uk/personality that goes on forever and never gives you a score, ever.
Feb. 17th, 2009 08:10 am (UTC)
My dumbass would keep going DARING the test to end. Hahaha. Thanks for the other links :D

Here is Belladonna, the Lady of the Rocks,
The lady of situations.
Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card
Which is blank, is something that he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself;

One must be so careful these days.
