Wow. Upon reading my friends list, I realize that not only did *I* stop journaling, but it seems the majority of my friends have stopped, too.

What ran us all off (besides that offensive stench that I finally rid myself of once and for all 2 years' ago)?

I have three friends who regularly update and that's it. Oooooooo El Jay - you ain't as purdy as you used to be.

I read something about this the other day. It seems a shocking number of people have gone to the dark side that is Facebook.
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:32 pm (UTC)
But Facebook serves another purpose. I'm on Facebook and it has proven invaluable in hooking up with former school and military friends; other than that, it's a way to pass the time, but not journal. I used to love updating my journal, and now, I could care less about it choosing, instead, to write in hard copy. Maybe we got tired of the world reading our lives? LOL It used to be fun in here!
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:35 pm (UTC)
Well, you know me. I'm in it for the social interaction as much as anything else (how sad does that make me?). Perhaps others were in a similar state.
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:37 pm (UTC)
I just like playing Mafia Wars :D
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:51 pm (UTC)
So do lotas of my friends. I don't have a facebook thing. My wife likes playing Farmville.
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:53 pm (UTC)
My bro and sis-in-law like playing that. I don't get it. Mafia Wars, yeah, I lurve that one :D I'm at a higher level now, so it's all cool and dangerous. :D

I think some people have decided that they'd rather concentrate on one or the other. I use Facebook, too, but continue my roughly weekly updates here. However, I use both Facebook and LiveJournal for the same reason: keeping up on the shenanigans and goings-on of friends.

I'd write more fun stuff, but I don't want to offend your tender sensibilities with tales of arrests and orgies and virgin sacrifices and wet t-shirt contests and stuff.
Oct. 16th, 2009 01:16 pm (UTC)
Oh, c'mon share! I'm NOT sensitive!!! Share, share.

The interesting stuff happens when we travel. I do write about it, though. When I wrote about PlayOnCon in Birmingham earlier this year, didn't I mention those nearly naked women in body paint? Or our happy male friend who got one of the girls who worked in the bar to take off her shirt so he could put a duct-tape rose that she wanted in her cleavage?

Speaking of which, we shall be back in Birmingham in July of 2010 for PlayOnCon!
Oct. 16th, 2009 02:21 pm (UTC)
I think you hold a LOT back on your entries during travels ;-) :D

Good! In July, I should be in good health and hopefully not in a flare. It is my birthmonth, after all, and this time we HAVE to get together no matter what!!! I even have my own bowling ball :D
Oct. 16th, 2009 02:39 pm (UTC)
I have to remember that some people need plausible deniability, so I sometimes worry about what can be discussed (at least right away).

Great! The bowling night is likely to be Wednesday, July 7th, by the way. I just hang out (Connie's the one who bowls), buy drinks and talk smack, not having to back it up.
Oct. 16th, 2009 02:40 pm (UTC)
Yay! She's gonna serve my ass up on a platter. lol :> My bowling ball has a soccer ball inside it. :D Let's do it!

Don't ALL men do that anyway? :D

I did today, but that'll pass, I'm sure. lol :D
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:54 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I'm one of those three :P

A lot of people move on from LJ, but I still prefer this site...
Oct. 15th, 2009 12:55 pm (UTC)
Yes, you're one of the three :D
Oct. 15th, 2009 01:06 pm (UTC)
Ebb and flow. darling, ebb and flow. I am still here, and always plan to be - it's just that life is so...busy!
Oct. 15th, 2009 01:43 pm (UTC)
You're pretty consistent, and I view you as I do ayoub. :D
Oct. 15th, 2009 04:00 pm (UTC)
Everyone's on facebook or myspace these days... :(
Oct. 15th, 2009 04:05 pm (UTC)
Again, Facebook is only good for finding old friends or playing Mafia Wars - not for journaling. I don't see the two as even remotely similar. I claimed my name on several sites (twitter, too) just to make sure crazy man (or woman) wouldn't get 'em, but I don't interact on most of them.
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:04 pm (UTC)
Sucked into the Facebook force! Not like I journal there, and I'm not in Mafia wars or any of that. Mostly to keep up with friends, plan stuff together.

Trying to get back into regular LJ entries, though.
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:27 pm (UTC)
Yeah; Facebook can't replace LJ.
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:23 pm (UTC)
I think its largely Facebook that sucked so many people away. I've only become active again recently to compete in a writing contest.

Its kind of too bad, because one of the fun things about LJ is that you end up friends with all kinds of people who you never knew before, where-as on Facebook, you primarily reconnect awkwardly with people who used to have crushes on you in high school.
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:31 pm (UTC)
What you say is all true, although my high school buddies are mostly female (LOL). :> I just lost my taste in being here for some reason, and was hoping someone could explain this phenom, beyond "Facebook is teh evil". :D

And I damn sure ain't participating in any writing contest on El Jay. That would be like participating in the special olympics, doncha think?
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:36 pm (UTC)
I'm feeling pretty good about participating in this one. Its mostly fake like my Superhero contests of yore. :P
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:40 pm (UTC)
Superhero! Heh :D I'm still debating Nano again this year.
Oct. 15th, 2009 05:43 pm (UTC)
There's also not a whole lot of functionality at LiveJournal. I mean, the most useful feature is the friends' page and even that is sort of outclassed by Twitter and Facebook's front page feed. I guess basically there are better options out there for most casual users, which leaves the hardcore fanfic, furry and emo communities to keep things going.
Oct. 15th, 2009 10:30 pm (UTC)
Facebook really knew how to brand their product. Everyone and their relatives (ha) have one now - even those who don't normally surf the web.

It's bedtime for LJ. Who knows, though - I might pick up and start writing obtuse, ridiculous entries again from out of the blue. lol

Here is Belladonna, the Lady of the Rocks,
The lady of situations.
Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card
Which is blank, is something that he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself;

One must be so careful these days.
