Immediate help needed (computer)

Look at it. So innocent and unable to WORK ON MY PUTER!

Ok. Just had this VEO Stingray dropped off on my door. Problem? The USB port is incompatible with my OLD system that I now use. I have a great computer that was 'bugged' (and NEEDS TO BE FIXED). So...does anyone out there closeby know how to fix a computer (with all dll files deleted, etc.) or know if there's a transformer or SOMEthing I can attach to make it work on an old system? HELP! This is so cool and I can't use it!

Not sure...
It could be one...of...hm, many people who know me in real life. And I found out that in order to buy this little transformer thingy (for my old puter) will cost TWICE what the cam did. OMG. Grrr. What I really need is for my good puter to be fixed (THANKSSS valiskeogh...you shall dieeeee! Muhahaha.

Re: Not sure...
hrm.... what...

i need you to give me as many specific details as humanly possible, anything and EVERYTHING you know about the computer, ANYTHING, make , model number, if it was bought from a real store, if it was put together, i need model of motherboard, what operating system, about how old it is, etc, everything you can think of!!

and what do you suspect to be the problem?
and what exactly IS the problem?

that way i can start thinking on possible solutions

Re: Not sure...
It's an awesome little compaq (we discussed this befo). All the driver files are missing, and it won't even recognize the cd rom. Taser tried to walk me through it, but we couldn't figure all the kinks out.

The hard drive's been petitioned, also. But if you're too busy, don't worry about it.

Re: Not sure...
what operating system is the one you are on right now?

Define "close by"....

I'll be in Bham Fri, maybe Sat.......

You CAN get a USB to Serial adapter, but you're looking at 30 bucks or so. If you're interested, tell me about the buggy system....

I'm lucky that someone got me a cam! :)

The buggy system is my AWESOME computer. All the .dll files are missing, it won't 'recognize' my CD rom (which means I can't install) and when I tried using a boot disk, nothing. At first, I could at LEAST pull it up in safe mode; but now, I can't do ANYthing with it. Optimally, getting that computer fixed would be primo!!!!! This system is a piece of junk...even though it gets me by on what *I* have to do (writing, etc.). The other computer rocks; I just need someone who's more familiar than *I* with config.sys, and finding out what all is wrong with it. Can you help?! Friday? NOOOOOOO! NOW! TOMORROW!! :D
May. 4th, 2003 10:06 pm (UTC)
Re: Arghhhh!
CONFIG.SYS??? But you're running Windoze XP! silly...
You can buy a rather inexpensive USB port that fits into one of your computer's expansion slots. (if you have any left)

heh. I said "slot".

I KNOW you could figure out my 'good computer' and fix it!!! I was looking for you earlier, hopppping that you'd take a looky. I really don't WANT this piece of shiite to be fixed unless necessary. And I 'think' fixing my good computer wouldn't take much but a brain (which you definitely have).

I can't buy anything to transform it right now. Was lucky to get the cam...if you're awake find or call me. :P

Not at HOME. I run Windows 98...gr. XP was at the office. "Inexpensive" is more than the camera (I just found out). Truly, I just need someone who's really good with figuring out puters to fix my good one, so all will be well. :P

you know... the same thing is going on with my computer. Everybody keeps telling me I gotta replace my cd rom though. But... they are just saying that from hearing me talk about the problem but I can't get anyone to look at it. So... if you get yours fixed then tell me what you did... maybe I can do the same thing.

What message do you get?
When you try to run a dvd? Mine doesn't even RECOGNIZE the hardware (because it was reconfigured by a psycho). I just need someone with minimal, yet savvy, IT experience to look at it. When I do, I'll definitely let you know. HOW FRUSTRATING is it when I receive a really cool cam and can't use it?! GAH. I just found out the connection I'd have to buy for THIS computer costs more (I think?) than the cam itself. Grrr...

Re: What message do you get?
I don't get one... my computer just says its not there. Its not listed as a drive in "my computer" and it won't open and just sits there if I pry it open and put a cd in it. But it doesn't play dvd's... just regular old cdroms.

I am computer stupid

Re: What message do you get?
Same thing with mine, only it WON'T play/run ANY cd I put in (i.e., installation cds, boots, etc). Grr...frustrating. Hopefully tomorrow, I'll have a solution that helps both of us. I *know* that mine is just a matter of 'telling' my computer that the cd drive is there. I just can't figure it out (yet).

You're NOTTTT computer stupid! A bad thing just happened to it. :P

Wish I were closer; I could probably whack it on the side and make it work.
Do you have a Win 98 installation CD?
May. 5th, 2003 06:04 am (UTC)
Yes, I do
But the perpetrator who 'destroyed' the computer made sure that my c.d. wouldn't be recognized; i've tried boot disks, reinstalling, etc., and NOTHING works. This is, incidentally, an AWESOME computer (not this one, but the good one).

Sounds like I need to call my attorney >:o

Here is Belladonna, the Lady of the Rocks,
The lady of situations.
Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card
Which is blank, is something that he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself;

One must be so careful these days.
