Like a true champion

Kelsey had her braces put on this morning. Now they come in all colors (gooooooooooody). She chose *gasp* pink. I knew it. There was a minor complication that I'm concerned with (they had to *move* a molar...*cringes*), but otherwise, she's okey dokey. No anesthetic, nada. They said Kelsey has a "perfect jawline." Yays!

When *I* had braces, OMG. They first, pulled four teeth (tiny mouth, too much crowding), gave me gas, novocained me and wrapped these bars of steel around each tooth, threading all this metal joy together with MORE steel, that slid through each individual circlette. Ughhh. And each time I visited the ortho, he'd tighten them. Plus, there was the added joy of the rubber bands I had to wear to *pull back* my upper teeth. Um...I *never* had an overbite (I realize as an adult) and feel this was his way of extorting my parents out of $3,000+. Unbelievable. This morning was like nothing even happened. *I* couldn't eat after mine; she was all over some French toast. Go figure. But let's not fight, mkay? Yeah. Avoided that.

That is all. Need to make arrangements and go to work.

Ah, braces!
Lene should have one too, so her dentists says. Because she has an overbite.
But i don't think the kid has ugly teeth, so i asked MY dentist if he can have a look at her teeth to see if it's really necessary. Sometimes i feel that braces are being put on, just to provide all these specialist with patients.
I'm curious what my dentist will say about it.

Cool that she was that brave!

Now, have fun at work. :o)

Kelsey needed them to have *perfect* teeth (which I have mixed feelings about...hrm). But yes, get a second opinion. It's not even about the money -- it's about putting your child through some potential horror that you'll have to live with, ya know? Orrrrrrrrr that's how I see it :/ She's going to have hers on for two years (which is precisely how long I had mine). Her dad never had braces (but needed them). And her teeth are coming in a little crooked, so I feel this will help her self-esteem in the long run.

How're you feeling? I'm having a you day. No energy, fever, blahness all the way around.
Mar. 21st, 2005 07:08 pm (UTC)
LOL** a you day. I love that expression.
I'm hanging in. Tired, after the weekend.

We just had to go to a church, there was a service for the dad of a friend of ours who died. It was SO crowded we needed to stand up.
My legs are all cramped up now, and i can hardly walk no more.

Those 'perfect' teeth. Blah!
I think braces are some kind of fashion-issue lately. A person doesn't need 'perfect' teeth. Ofcourse, when braces are necessary i will be the first to agree with putting my kids through all the horor.
But Lene doesn't have ugly teeth and they're not crooked at all. So that's why i will get thet second opinion.
Lene thinks a brace is cool! And that's exactly what i'm protesting against. It's not a damn cool thing. It's a brace! And is good for heaps of visits to dentists and stuff. Nothing cool about that!

LOL** a you day. I love that expression.

Thank ya :-D

When I was a kid, we thought braces were cool, too (until we went through the agony of wearing them). Kelsey's definitely need to be straightened up. BUT...BUT...she wouldn't be "ugly" if they weren't. Her face is angelic, and she's absolutely gorgeous, with or without perfect teeth (IMHO). So...you know how that is. I'm not real sure she was gung-ho about it to start with. She's one of those kids who says "she doesn't want to grow up." I couldn't WAIT TO GROW UP.

Ja, get a second opinion. You don't want your kids going through unnecessary pain, even if they *do* think it's "cool."
Mar. 21st, 2005 05:39 pm (UTC)
Oh, it'll hurt later. Trust me. I could eat right after, but the next day... OMG. So much pain. Hard to eat anything... ughhh. I'm so glad I'm done with braces! I had them for like 3 years! (Freshman to Junior in high school)
Mar. 21st, 2005 05:57 pm (UTC)
STOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!! GAH. You're just TRYINGGGGGGG to upset me, ain't ya??? >:I GrRRrr.
Mar. 21st, 2005 06:17 pm (UTC)
hahah...YOUR braces sound just like mine. i had 4 permanent teeth pulled too b/c my mouth was too crowded (i was growing tusks it was so bad!)

and omg the pain of tightening. so glad that is over with!
Mar. 21st, 2005 06:19 pm (UTC)
Ughhh. I was SOOO gassed up, that I don't remember them actually *working* on me; just remember drooling with my mouth open for hours' afterwards on my bed, praying that it would stop. Ackkk. I don't want her to feel like that!!!! *sobs*
Mar. 21st, 2005 06:18 pm (UTC)
Thank God that Catherine doesn't need braces. Both Rhiannon and Christopher did. I could have bought a brand new car for what I put in their mouths. Then again, they both look like Osmond's!
Mar. 21st, 2005 06:21 pm (UTC)
Seeeeeeeee, I don't want them *perfect.* Er, your teeth *can* give you character. And after all the freakin' work done on my mouth, I was hit by a car later on (so I required TONS of dental surgery in the back of my mouth as a result; still do). In fact, now you can see distinctly that my two front keep *slightly* turn in. Not much, but a little bit. I've always thought my smile was one of my best qualities (not AFTER the braces). So I don't want them to totally change the way her face looks =/
Mar. 21st, 2005 06:24 pm (UTC)
Did she get clear or metal? Braces have come so far since the old days...
Mar. 21st, 2005 06:28 pm (UTC)
It's a combination. Thank GOD. If it'd been all metal, I'd be in a semi-panic right now...
Mar. 21st, 2005 07:26 pm (UTC)
I'm glad it wasn't as awful as you feared it would be. *"hello" to Kelsey*
Mar. 21st, 2005 11:09 pm (UTC)
I went in to work later; from what I understand, TOMORROW or the next day, she'll be feeling it. I hope not :/
Mar. 22nd, 2005 05:06 pm (UTC)
I'm sure there might be some residual soreness but it shouldn't be as bad as yours apparently were. Of course, I am basing this solely upon observations of my daughter (who turned 14 yeaterday, BTW), not personal experience.
Mar. 24th, 2005 12:06 am (UTC)
She's definitely a tough one :-D Whew.
Mar. 21st, 2005 07:37 pm (UTC)
Ugh Braces!

Actually, they weren't so bad. The retainer was more annoying, honestly.
Mar. 21st, 2005 11:10 pm (UTC)
Retainer! Ahahahahaaha! The first night I *tried* to wear it, I woke up with it beside me on the pillow. So I never wore it again (er, ever). Heh. :)

I hope hers is as smooth as yours was. Mine was a most unhappy experience :/ I broke one of the steel rods that joined the front to the back, and it went THROUGH my cheek (not kidding). Skeery stuff.
Mar. 21st, 2005 08:56 pm (UTC)
Ever guldern one of them
I used to think I was the lucky one, I never had braces or my wisdom teeth out... Now I know my parents were just poor!!! *snort*

Ya wanna see em? Won't bite... (hard)

Mar. 24th, 2005 05:18 am (UTC)

She's a lucky girl
Mar. 25th, 2005 12:04 am (UTC)
From what *I* remember (I looked for your pic, but couldn't find it!! *sobs*) there was NOTHING wrong at all with you (smile/teeth included). If I was in school with ya, I'd be all hanging out at your locker and er, teasing you :D LOL.
Mar. 25th, 2005 01:02 am (UTC)
I wil post a picture of me now, you need to see one again.

Eye see, Open your eyes
Creeping Through The Cellar Door

Latest Month

June 2019

Here is Belladonna, the Lady of the Rocks,
The lady of situations.
Here is the man with three staves, and here the Wheel,
And here is the one-eyed merchant, and this card
Which is blank, is something that he carries on his back,
Which I am forbidden to see. I do not find
The Hanged Man. Fear death by water.
I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.
Thank you. If you see dear Mrs. Equitone,
Tell her I bring the horoscope myself;

One must be so careful these days.
